Embrace the Sun

Embrace The SunFor years we’ve heard about how bad overexposure to the sun can be for children. But what about underexposure?

About 70% of U.S. children have low levels of Vitamin D, which has been attributed to a sedentary lifestyle that keeps more kids out of the sun. And now, a study at the Oakland Research Institute has specifically linked Vitamin D to brain health, showing that its active form binds to receptors in the brain.1

What should parents do? "It would be good for them to turn off the TV and send their kids outside," Dr. Michal L. Melamed of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University said. "Just 15 to 20 minutes a day should be enough."2 Who knew that a little extra time outside might help kids in the classroom?
